They will affect families, workers, employers, small businesses, local economies, and entire communities across Massachusetts and throughout the United States.

Haitian TPS holders are not strangers to our economy. They are employees, entrepreneurs, caregivers, health care workers, construction workers, hospitality professionals, drivers, educators, business owners, taxpayers, homeowners, and parents. Many have lived and worked in the United States for years, contributing to industries that are already facing labor shortages and workforce challenges.

For employers, the uncertainty surrounding TPS creates serious concerns. Businesses depend on reliable, experienced, and legally authorized workers. If thousands of Haitian TPS holders lose work authorization, employers may face staffing disruptions, productivity losses, increased hiring costs, and instability in sectors that are vital to our economy. Small businesses, in particular, could be severely impacted if workers, customers, and business owners are suddenly forced into legal uncertainty.

For employees and families, the consequences are even more personal. The possible loss of work authorization could mean the loss of income, health insurance, housing stability, driver’s licenses, and the ability to provide for children and loved ones. Many Haitian workers are supporting families both here in the United States and in Haiti, where the humanitarian, security, and economic conditions remain extremely fragile.

The Chamber believes that immigration policy must recognize both human dignity and economic reality. Removing protections from individuals who are actively contributing to our workforce and communities would not only create fear and hardship for families, but also harm employers, weaken local economies, and disrupt essential services.

At a time when businesses across the country continue to need dependable workers, we should be creating stability, not uncertainty. Haitian TPS holders have proven their commitment to this country through their labor, entrepreneurship, taxes, community service, and resilience.
