Marvin Mathelier is a young Haitian American leader with impressive backgrounds in the academic, community, entrepreneurial and military sectors. For two years, he spearheaded a Haitian American task force that resulted in various state and city agencies – Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA), Mayor’s Office of Art and Culture (MOAC), the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) – awarding the Haitian community the Toussaint Louverture Cultural Center (TLCC), an ambitious project that the Haitian American United Inc (HAU), has been pursuing for years. This space will host a wide array of cultural programming, art exhibitions, gift shops, educational programming, that will enhance the standing of the Haitian community in a new neighborhood, but in Boston in general. The building is in the Love Joy building, across the Boston Garden and is a high traffic tourist area.
Marvin Mathelier’s academic pedigrees include an MBA in marketing at Loyola University, in Chicago, and a Master of Public Administration at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University.
He is Marine Civil Affairs Officer in the US Marine Corps, which also drives his passion for community service. He is also the co-owner of a small business, the Ula Café in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
Marvin’s strategic approach to leadership, his management style, his patience working a diverse team to complete a proposal that was brilliantly defended before a committee in charge of selecting several solid proposals, were crucial in the final decision made by BPDA, MOAC and DEP to award this prized space to the Haitian Toussaint Louverture Cultural Center (TLCC).
